Power of Exercise

Over thirty percent (30%) of adults worldwide do not get enough physical activity according to the World Health Organization (WHO). This lack of exercise may cause serious health risks such as heart disease, diabetes, and even early death. In today’s world, people tend to spend a lot more time sitting than exercising, further increasing their risks of these life-threatening effects. The sheer importance of exercise cannot be overstated.


There are many benefits of exercise. One such benefit is simply that exercise can prevent illness. Regular physical activity strengthens the immune system, reducing risks of a variety of diseases. In addition, exercise reinforces mental stability. It can relieve stress, helping to reduce the buildup of depression and anxiety. And to add onto the extensive list of benefits, exercise helps people build up their strength and flexibility, making daily activities easier. Exercise helps the body and mind in overwhelmingly positive ways, making it a must, especially in today’s society.



While there are many benefits of exercise, a lack of exercise can have a plethora of negative effects. Those who lack to include exercise as a part of their daily routine can expect to see a drop in their fitness levels. This decrease often leads to an increase in regular tiredness as well as an increase to the risk of obesity. Obesity especially can apply excessive pressure on the knees of those who suffer from it. Additionally, insufficient exercise may also lead to worsened stress levels. Exercising causes one’s body to release hormones called endorphins which help reduce stress on top of improving mood. Without exercise, this natural mood booster doesn’t get to improve lives in the way it’s meant to, making it harder for people to manage their everyday tasks and obligations.



Although exercise has proven to be vital, many people tend to feel overwhelmed with their options. There are various types of exercises that focus on different areas of one’s body. Some may include categorizations such as aerobic, anaerobic, flexibility, and balance. Types of exercise can be freely chosen based on personal needs and preferences. Aerobic exercise is a type of exercise that improves heart and lung function. Some examples of aerobic exercises include long, low-intensity running and jogging or swimming. Anaerobic exercises tend to strengthen muscles through shortened bursts of high intensity. Anaerobic exercises may include push-ups and weight lifting. Flexibility exercises aid in the suppleness of muscles and joints, improving range of motion, most commonly practiced through stretching. Finally, balance exercises are activities that improve the body’s ability to maintain stability by strengthening core muscles and enhancing balance. Common examples of balance exercises include yoga or pilates. Balance training is especially important for the elderly, preventing falls and possible harm or injury.



Overall, exercise is important for staying healthy and feeling good and energized. Different types of exercise help improve strength, flexibility, circulatory systems, and balance. Regular exercise has been proven to improve the states of people’s bodies and minds, keeping those who exercise in good shape. In all, exercise is a necessity for living life comfortably and healthily. Let’s all find an exercise that fits us, and let’s live healthy lives!
